THE CONSTRUCTION OF COMMUNITY HALL AT KUMBUNA COMMUNITY, KURU, JOS SOUTH, PLATEAU STATE

By Bulmun Dakwal

The rainy season comes with a challenge for the residents of Kumbuna community. For many years, they have been holding their community meetings and due to the lack of a community hall in Maraban Jama’a, a neighbouring community.

In 2021, Dachung Musa Bagos, the member representing Jos south/Jos east federal constituency nominated N30 million for the construction of a community hall in Kuru that is now left incomplete in the community.

The project which was placed under the supervision of the Federal College of Veterinary and Medical Laboratory Technology would bring an end to the long-lasting suffering faced by these people.

However, upon visitation the hall remained incomplete, the project which brought hope to the people has now left them in the dark with no further explanation or clue as to when the project will be complete.

Speaking to UDEME, Mrs. Rifkatu Jang, a resident in the community, said, “I can still recall how we as a community were happy when the project started but then the project stopped in October over six months ago, when ever the women need to hold their meeting, we either use the community leaders house, an open space or the church premises which is mostly not convenient.”

Mr. Peter Dung the community leader expressed his gratitude to the federal government for this project and went further to say “we are happy this project was brought to our community, though we face challenges when it comes to holding community meetings."

When asked what some of the challenges are, he said, “if we are to have our meeting as a community, we either have it outside the school premises or the kings palace but when it’s the rainy season we have to go to Maraban Jama’a our neighboring community to have our meeting because they have a functioning hall there."
