Students suffer over lack of transportation facilities at Enugu Ukwu ICT center
By Epiphanus Obia
In 2022, an ICT center located at Enugu Ukwu in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State was allocated the sum of 10 million naira for the provision of a generator and an 18-seater bus.
The center which bears the name 'Dozie Nwankwo Skill Acquisition and ICT Center' was built by the then federal representative of the area, Dozie Nwankwo.
Ezekwe Anulika, a receptionist at the center, revealed that Mr Nwankwo procured a generator for the center, which had been used to provide alternative power supply. She however noted that no bus was made available to them.
Mrs Ezekwe also said cited transportation as a major issue for the center as some of the students come from neighboring communities and villages. "The inability for students to transport themselves has led to decrease in the number of students who attend classes. This is because the ICT class is held in the evenings, and the students might not be able to transport themselves back as they come from far away villages,” she said.
She thanked the lawmaker for his initiative and also called on him to help with the plan of a means of transportation, as “it will be of great relief to both the center and the students."
Sadly, the students at the ICT center were unavailable for interviews as they only come for training on Wednesdays and Fridays by 3pm to 5pm.
